Sprague
makes his first road course start of his rookie season
in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series this weekend at Infineon
Raceway. The team tested for the event several weeks ago
and also spent a day testing at Road Atlanta last week.
SPRAGUE ON THE DODGE/SAVEMART 350. "We spent a couple of days testing
at the track back in April and were relatively happy with
the results. I don't have a ton of experience at this
track, and I've got a lot to learn. We raced here in the
truck series, but it was a couple of years ago before they
made the latest changes to the track. After the test the
Haas CNC Racing team built a brand new NetZero HiSpeed
Pontiac, so we aren't bringing back the same car we tested. We
had the opportunity to shake the new car down last week
at Road Atlanta and I think it will be even better than
the car that we were initially planning to bring. Tony
Furr and the guys have really been building some good cars. We're
so much more competitive than we were in the beginning
of the season. I think everyone has stepped it up. The
guys have worked hard and we've been able to improve every
aspect of this race team. We qualify better, we race better
and we finish better most of the time. Infineon Raceway
is a different kind of animal though. The concentration
level is so high. You always have to be thinking about
what's coming up next. There are some really good road
racers these days in the Cup Series and hopefully I can
learn a little from them and stay out of trouble. If we
can do that, than I think we can have a pretty decent day."
