JACK SPRAGUE RICHMOND FAST FACTS: Sprague
is one of only two drivers with multiple NCTS wins at RIR.
Sprague won in 1998 and again in 2001. In eight previous RIR
NCTS starts, Sprague has completed 1,476 of 1,479 possible
laps (99.8%) and has led 304 laps, the most in NCTS competition.
He won the pole for the NASCAR Busch Series race in 2002.
JACK SPRAGUE RICHMOND QUOTES: “I
am looking forward to going to Richmond. We tested there recently
and had a really good test. It is one of my favorite tracks,
I have always liked the place. It is one of the tracks where
(Ron) Hornaday and I had some of our best battles in the early
years of the series.
“We have won twice at Richmond and I think I still
have the record for the best burnout when I caught the tires
on fire after the win in 2001. It is a fun track to drive.
Just enough larger than Bristol, Martinsville or some of the
other short tracks we run out so you aren’t constantly
beating and banging on each other but close enough racing
to have to be up on the wheel the whole race. It isn’t
the easiest place to pass but not impossible either because
there are two grooves. You need your truck to be solid on
the corner entry, run through the center of the corner and
then come up off the corners hard. You have to watch your
brakes because you will get them hot and be in trouble pretty
quickly if they fail.”
