Sprague On Martinsville:

“I’ve come really close to winning at Martinsville, but it hasn’t ever worked out for me at the end of the race. I told someone that if I ever won at Martinsville, I might just retire right then and there because winning at Martinsville is just something I haven’t been able to do. I don’t know what it is about that track. It’s not one of my favorite places to race. It’s just so difficult to be good at Martinsville. You think you’re good in practice and then the race starts and your not as good as you thought. It’s just a tough place, but the Con-way Toyota team is up for the challenge. I always qualify well there, which is good because we have to qualify on time. We’ve tested at Caraway, and I’m confident we’ll be up front when the checkered flag waves.”

Career At Martinsville Speedway:

Sprague has 16 career starts at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck, Busch and Nextel Cup Series combined. Sprague has one pole (2004) and four third-place finishes, the most recent coming at Martinsville Speedway last spring.

Rebounding From Atlanta:

After two consecutive fifth-place finishes to start the 2006 season, Jack Sprague and the No. 60 Wyler Racing Con-Way Toyota finished in 17th place at Atlanta. But one disappointing finish doesn’t dampen Sprague’s spirits and confidence in his Wyler Racing team.

“We’ve ran extremely well this year with the exception of Atlanta, and we’re not sure what went wrong there. We were good all day in practice, and I really thought the race would come down to me and Mark (Martin), but there was just something wrong with the truck, and we couldn’t do anything in the race to make it better,” Sprague said. “That was the worst race we’ve had since I’ve been with the Wyler Racing team, but that’s just part of racing. We’re just going to keep digging, and we’re going to keep working on the truck to make our performances better every week. Tony Furr (crew chief) and I and the entire Con-Way team are looking forward to getting back on the right track at Martinsville. I feel confident that we’re going to be a threat to win the race.”

Notes:

  • Sprague will be making his 226th career start in the Craftsman Truck Series this week.
  • Sprague has 25 career victories (2nd highest in the Series) and 28 career poles.
  • Sprague finished fifth in each of the first two events (Daytona and California) of the 2006 season.
