Sprague and Wyler Racing Team Keep Busy Schedules
“Three Time Champion To Appear At Con-way
Event And Throw Out First Pitch At Cincinnati Reds Game”
MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA (July
20, 2006) - It’s been a special week for Jack Sprague
and the Wyler Racing team. Sprague and the team scored their
first pole of the 2006 season, led the most laps and celebrated
in Victory Lane at Memphis Motorsports Park last weekend. The victory
was Sprague’s 26th career win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series, and the first win for team owners Jeff and David Wyler
and sponsor Con-way Freight.
“This is a fairly new team, so to celebrate with my owners
who had never been to Victory Lane before and with some of the guys
who had never gotten a win before was really cool,” Sprague
said. “Every win is special because you don’t know when
you are going to get your next one – but to get the first win
for Jeff and David Wyler and for such a great sponsor like Con-way
Freight really meant a lot to me.”
With two weeks until the next NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race
at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, the Wyler Racing
team has plenty of time to celebrate their first trip to Victory
Lane. But just because the No. 60 Con-way Freight Toyota won’t
take to the race track this weekend, it doesn’t mean that Sprague
and his team are slowing down one bit.
In fact, Sprague and crew chief Tony Furr have a busy weekend ahead
of them. Used to competing themselves for top driving honors, Sprague
and Furr will take a backseat and witness other professional drivers
compete for the top prize in Con-way Freight’s annual truck
driving competitions in two different regions.
Sprague will be at the Con-way Freight - Central Truck Driving Championships
and Mechanics Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. Furr will be attending
the
Con-way Freight - Western Truck Driving Championships and Mechanics
Competition in Denver, Colorado. There will be a No. 60 Con-way Freight
Toyota Tundra show truck at both events, and Sprague and Furr will
sign autographs. Both competitions take place on Sunday, July 23.
“For us, these competitions are coming at the perfect time,” Sprague
said. “Con-way’s employees have been great supporters
of this racing program. They come to the race track every week. They
show their team colors in hats and T-shirts. They are behind me and
the Wyler Racing team 100 percent, which has been a huge confidence
boost for us this year.
“I’ve never had a sponsor whose employees are so gung
ho about racing. So to have the chance to celebrate our first win
with Con-way Freight employees and their families will be pretty
cool.”
But before Sprague gets to spend time with fellow professional drivers
and some of his biggest fans at the truck driving competition, he
will make a pit stop on Saturday night at Great American BallPark – the
home of the Cincinnati Reds. Sprague’s team owner – Jeff
Wyler – is also part of the ownership group of the Reds.
Sprague will throw out the first pitch for the Saturday night game
between the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I’m pretty excited to throw out the first pitch for
the Reds game especially right after we got our first win,” Sprague
said. “Since my team owner also has some ownership interest
in the Reds, it’s a neat deal. I’ve thrown out the first
pitch at some baseball games before, but never one for my owner’s
team. I just hope that I don’t embarrass them out there.
“It’s going to be a fun weekend all the way around.”
