Jack Sprague No. 2 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet Team Race Preview

NASCAR Truck Series Race 9 of 25 — Texas Motor Speedway

RECORD BREAKER: Jack Sprague holds the NASCAR Truck Series qualifying record at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). In 2005, Sprague laid down a lap of 144.844 m.p.h.

“Poles mean a lot to me, they always have,” Sprague said.  “I held the record for most pole wins until Skinner passed me a few years ago.  I would love to go back to Texas and beat my own record.  That would be pretty cool.”

Jack Sprague Quotes:

WHAT MAKES TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY (TMS) A UNIQUE TRACK?

“TMS is a lot like Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  However, there is a distinct bump at TMS going into turn one that always makes acing the first lap a little hairy.“

THE TRUCK SERIES DOES A LOT OF NIGHT RACING.  DOES PRACTICING IN THE DAY AND TRANSITIONING TO NIGHT CHANGE THE TRUCK SIGNIFICANTLY? “Practicing during the day you usually have a tight truck, however, you want it that way.  As you transition into night, the track gets progressively looser but you have more overall grip.  I don’t really think it changes too drastically, but the track is rather temperature-sensitive, so knowing that going in helps to make adjustments. “

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HOLD THE TRACK RECORD AT TMS?

“When we race 25 races a year you tend to lose track of where you hold track records.  I know that I have 33 poles and three track records but if you ask me to name where they are it can get a little foggy.  It’s always a nice reminder that you are the person in the record books that blew the doors off the other competitors.  Chances are with our new restrictor plates, I don’t think my record is in danger of being broken.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The KHI No. 2 RoadLoans.com team will bring chassis No. 023 to TMS.  Chassis No. 023 has raced this season at Kansas Speedway and Lowes (N.C.) Motor Speedway and helped Sprague earn his career best finishes at each of those venues.

DUE FOR A CHECKERED FLAG: It has been 32 starts since Sprague last visited victory lane. However, TMS is just the place for Sprague to end that trend.  In 16 starts at TMS Sprague has two wins, seven top-five and 10 top-10 finishes.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, Sprague recorded his second runner-up finish of 2008.  Battling a tight-handling race truck, Sprague fought his way from the sixth starting position and moved to the sixth position in the points standings, 65 markers out of first.
