Jack Sprague No. 2 RVs.com Chevrolet Team Race Preview
NASCAR Truck Series Race 10 of 25 — Michigan International Speedway
HOMETOWN BOY: Jack Sprague hails from Spring Lake, Michigan, approximately 150 miles from Michigan International Speedway. Sprague raced Late Models in the amateur divisions at Thunderbird Raceway and Winston Speedway in Muskegon, Michigan. Sprague holds championship titles at each Speedway.
“I love going back home and being able to compete in front of my hometown crowd,” Sprague said. “It would mean so much for me to win at Michigan International Speedway. I think it would bring things full circle; winning here locally when I first started and now being able to win at one of the highest levels of NASCAR competition would be pretty cool. ”
GOTCHA COVERED: KHI teammates Sprague and Ron Hornaday have combined for victories at all but three of the current NASCAR Truck Series venues. The only three where the duo haven’t won: Michigan International Speedway, Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
PACKING ON THE POINTS: Following the San Bernardino 200 at The Auto Club Speedway in California, Sprague and the No. 2 team sat 23rd in the NASCAR Truck Series point standings. Since then, Sprague and team have steadily climbed the standings ladder. Even though the No. 2 team has yet to visit victory lane in 2008, they continue to keep their eye on the championship. In the seven races since California, Sprague and team have gained 18 positions and currently sit fifth, only 71 points behind KHI teammate Ron Hornaday.
“I keep saying each week that this team is brand new and to be where we are now is pretty awesome,” said Sprague. “I’m really proud of how these guys have gone to work and really made our trucks better each week. Our pit stops have gotten better and our communication has improved. We are so close to getting a win. I’m really proud of how the points have taken care of themselves. We roll off the truck every week wanting to content for the win, but if we can’t take the victory we get the best finish we can. I am confident if we keep doing that we will be right in the thick of it come Homestead.”
Jack Sprague Quotes:
WHY DOES MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (MIS) ALWAYS PRODUCE THREE-WIDE RACING?
“MIS has always been a multi-groove race track. I always like coming to MIS not only because it is home but because you have the ability to search around for a groove where your truck can work the best.”
MIS IS AN IMPORTANT TRACK FOR MANUFACTUERS SINCE IT IS THE CLOSEST TRACK TO DETROIT. HOW ARE THE OTHER MAKES DIFFERENT FROM A CHEVROLET?
“The only difference I have seen is in the horsepower under the hood. The body styles are also slightly different which can give you a little more sidebite here and there and help create a little more speed. I would love not only to get my first win here but another win for Chevrolet.”
CHASSIS HISTORY: The KHI No. 2 RVs.com team will bring chassis No. 023 to MIS. ChassisNo. 023 has raced this season at Kansas Speedway where Sprague scored his first top-five-finish of 2008. No. 23 also competed at Lowes (N.C.) Motor Speedway (LMS) helping Sprague score his career best finish of 14th at LMS. Last week at Texas Motor Speedway Sprague drove chassis No. 23 to a fourth-place finish vaulting him to fifth in the NASCAR Truck Series point standings - his highest position thus far in 2008.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Texas Motor Speedway, Sprague and the No. 2 team recorded their third top-five finish of 2008; coming home fourth in the Sam’s Town 400. Sprague led for a total of 20 laps and moved up one position in the standings to fifth only 71 points behind the leader, teammate Ron Hornaday.
